I think MailChimp sucks!!

It’s clunky and frustrating to use and the recent changes to their packages it’s also now rather expensive for what you get. They’re performance in a recent (July 2019) Survey show that they came out 3rd overall but 4th in deliverability out of 14 systems surveyed. They were beaten by two of my favourite systems – Mailerlite and ActiveCampaign.

I’ve been supporting small business owners with email marketing for over 6 years now and my hatred for MailChimp has intensified so much that I cannot bring myself to use it any longer.

There are some interesting statistics in the survey and blog by email tool tester and you can compare systems really simply on their website.

What do the changes to MailChimp’s pricing mean to you…?

  1. You can no longer set up multi-step automations on the free account
  2. Unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts count towards you contact limit – damn cheeky is you ask me
  3. To remain under the free contacts, you’ll need to keep a close eye on your contacts and delete/ export the unsubscribed on a regular basis
  4. Oh yes, it’s still clunky to use!

So, what can you do to make you Email marketing (whether it’s newsletter, free download sequences, targeted follow ups or any other email marketing) run smoother and be more effective…?

I will always say first, and foremost strategy & content of any email marketing is vital but let’s look at the technical choices. What other systems do you have available to you and your business.

I recommend Mailerlite or ActiveCampaign to my clients. They both rock and fit most small business budgets and requirements. They are both straight forward to use and connect with other apps easily so your tech talks to each other.

Who are Mailerlite?

They are based in Lithuania; they are relatively new with a vibrant team who are solely focussing on email marketing. The packages are simple, and the features are really good even on the free package!

What about ActiveCampaign, who are they?

They’re based in Chicago, Indianapolis & Sydney, they’re super helpful and have extensive support network and believe in tech that works for you, not tech you have to figure out. They work to help you make easier, smart decisions for your growth. Their packages are also simple, and on some packages, you even get a super simple but hugely effective CRM! Their CRM is one of my favourites!
